Séverina LARTIGUE

Parurière florale

Craft National Living Treasures 2022

Séverina Lartigue transforms matter into poetic flowers, heir to a rare craft she now transmits. Her creations, blending tradition and contemporaneity, explore beauty, memory and human connection through unique and sensitive works.

Séverina Lartigue, an artist working with textile transformation and manipulation, is the heir to the rare savoir-faire of floral adornment, passed down from the Fromentin workshop founded in 1902. Her own studio, established in 1998, also preserves a collection of historical tools, some dating back to the early 19th century. This exceptional heritage earned her the title of Living Heritage Company (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, EPV) in 2012.

Appointed Master of Art in floral adornment in 2022 (a French distinction awarded by the Ministry of Culture), Séverina Lartigue transmits her savoir-faire to her student Martin Préault, embroidery designer. Together, they have presented emblematic works in prestigious exhibitions, such as The Queen’s Sceptre at Espace Richaud in Versailles (Sous le soleil des savoir-faire, les Maîtres d’art à Versailles, 2024), Eve at Homo Faber in Venice (2024), and at the Château de Lunéville (Beaux gestes !, 2025). They also took part in a performance and a symposium on transmission in Kyoto, as part of Nuit Blanche Kyoto (2024) and the 30th anniversary of the Maîtres d’art/Élèves program. Their collaboration is featured in the film Poetic Botany & Textile Alchemy, directed by Florian Debu, in the series From Material to Masterpiece: Masters of Art and their Students.

Recognized as a Talent du luxe et de la création, in the category Rarity (2017), and listed in the UNESCO Inventory of Rare Crafts (2011), Séverina Lartigue also collaborates with haute couture. She creates exceptional flowers for luxury houses and for the Opera, notably crafting the crowns for the corps de ballet and étoiles in La Sylphide and Onegin. Her work has been exhibited in Europe and Asia — from Galerie Joyce at the Palais-Royal in Paris to Galerie Handwerk in Munich, and in Japan at Isetan, Mitsukoshi and Hankyu.

In her creations, textile and plant intertwine in a subtle alchemy, giving rise to sculptural, poetic and sensorial works that combine tradition with contemporary creation. Her approach is also featured in the documentary The Secrets of Haute Couture (Géo-Reportage), where she created A Garden for a Lizard, an upcycling-based work presented at Homo Faber 2022, which questions the origins of beauty.

Her book, One Hundred and One Petals for a Rose (Klincksieck Editions, 2023), offers a direct testimony from the artisan about her craft and philosophy.
“My ambition is to revitalize the image of the silk flower and to reintroduce it into a world that needs the luminous message it conveys — the poetic message of the benefits of embellishment and contemplation.”
