Since antiquity, the engraver prevents time from erasing men’s memory of their history. It’s the objective of the antique cylinder seals then of the heraldic symbol in the Middle Ages. It is in this domain that Gérard Desquand chose to orient himself. The heraldist engraver is a seal engraver who holds the science of the coat of arms. The engraved signet ring remains for many the ostentatious mark of membership to a group, to a family. That answers a need for attachment to history, to roots and to maintain the link beyond time that erases memory.
Gérard Desquand was born on 19 February 1951. Graduate of the school Estienne in 1970 receiving the title of Best Worker in France in heraldic engraving in 1979, then named Master Artist in 2006.
The transfer of know-how is part of the mission of the Maître d’Art.
Each Maître d’Art takes under his wing one or more students to train companions and craftsmen of the twenty-first century.
